London Metropolitan University has announced the impending closure of its Moorgate and Aldgate campuses, the latter being the home of the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design.
Their plans involve a reduction of student numbers from 13,000 to 10,000, a reduction of staff by a third and the loss of a number of courses. The decision to retain courses will in part be based on the cost of relocation. 19 course closures have already been announced, including Jewellery and Silversmithing, and the last Musical Instrument making BSc in the country.
LMU state that the remaining courses will be relocated to their Holloway campus but have provided no information about the potential spaces that might be made available.
Faculty and students are concerned that the proposed plan will bring the Cass into decline.
